Blogtober (#27) A Triumph of Modern Poetry | Review: Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer
6:30 AM
More than just a beautiful cover: Aphrodite Made Me Do It is one of the best poetry releases of the year.
Bestselling and award-winning author Trista Mateer takes an imaginative approach to self-care in this new poetry and prose collection, Aphrodite Made Me Do It. In this empowering retelling, she uses the mythology of the goddess to weave a common thread through the past and present. By the end of this book, Aphrodite make you believe in the possibility of your own healing.
As always, a copy of this book was provided by the publisher or author in exchange for my honest review. This does not effect my opinion in any way.
Trista Mateer had me at mythology and self care when it came to Aphrodite Made Me Do It. I am so glad I live in an era of empowering prose such as Mateer. Truly. It goes without saying, I've been eagerly anticipating more from Mateer since I read her magnificent release Honeybee. When given the opportunity to read and review Aphrodite Made Me Do It, I jumped. I'm so very glad I did.
Where to begin? This was truly a fantastic read. Remarkable, poignant and completely consuming, it serves as a title that will surely draw more readers to Mateer. It is one of the reads that seemingly came at the exact moment in my life that I needed it most. I'm in awe over every line, every page, every breathe. Everyone who loves poetry should read this one. End sentence.
Really, though. Read this one. This past year has been another incredible year for poetry and the women in it. And Aphrodite Made Me Do It is one of the years biggest triumphs when it comes down to it. Trista Mateer has truly hit all the right spots with it. I've never read anything like it. This was an unforgettable release and will truly leave you feeling like you've read something of an otherworldly beauty.
I have always been the type of person who annotates poetry. Aphrodite Made Me Do It is no exception to this, but I think I made more notes and highlights within its pages than I did any other release this year. It's that gorgeously crafted.
That being said, if my review didn't sell you: I'm going to point you all in the direction of Destiny's marvelous and to the point review because it summarizes my feelings about Aphrodite Made Me Do It perfectly. If she can't sell you on something, no one can.
