by Frank L. Cole

Mezzarix has stolen the Vessel, the source of power for all potion masters, and is preparing to launch his final attack on the potion-making community—which includes his own family.

Gordy and his family have gone into hiding, but when his mom uncovers some new information, she takes Gordy into the underground network known as the Swigs, a haven for renegade potion masters and black-market potions, to secure support in the fight against Mezzarix. But when Scourges, rebel potion makers acting on orders from Mezzarix, attack the Swigs, Gordy barely escapes with his life and is forced to leave his family behind.

As the fight intensifies between B.R.E.W. and the Scourges, it falls to Gordy and his friends—Max, Sasha, and Adilene—to locate Mezzarix's hidden headquarters, retrieve the Vessel, save the world, and unite the potion-making community.

The world of Potion Masters is full of fantasy and adventure as Gordy and his friends learn the power of friendship and loyalty, and to trust in their own individual talents.

As always, a copy of this book was provided by the publisher or author in exchange for my honest review. This does not effect my opinion in any way.

Note: If readers feel lost in the terms used within the Potion Masters world, as always, there is a glossary in the back of the book to guide or remind.

Middle grade novels are truly magical and Potion Masters is one of the leaders of the pack. Once more, Frank L. Cole crafts a delightful, witty and adventurous novel that balances fantasy, science and coming of age. Worthy of shelf space right alongside modern day classics by authors such as J.K Rowling and Rick Riordan, this series has been a blast from start to finish.

What I like most about this series is how vivid and adventurous it truly is. There is something fun and uniquely exhilarating at its core. The characters are each enjoyable in their own right, taking us on the roads in which they travel. We learn right alongside them. We laugh. We show concern as they do. We watch them grow up and explore in trial and error. We walk away from The Seeking Serum feeling confident in its ending.

This is the installment we've been working towards and finally the battle between good vs. evil truly escalates. Gordy and his friends and family work together in a way that is purely entertaining and full of delight. Frank L. Cole takes them on this final journey and captivates his audience immediately and holds them in place until the final page.

The Seeking Serum is an especially strong ending that combines everything we loved about the previous two books. It is the very sort of book that will draw younger readers into the magic that is literature and will captivate them in the most imaginative ways possible. It is fun for all ages. I've loved seeing how Cole develops the scientific and fantastical elements of the series as a whole, and this one felt all the more lush in detail.

One thing is certain: I'm going to miss Gordy, B.R.E.W. and this world that Cole has created. But, I couldn't be happier with how the series ends. You don't have to love middle grade novels or stories that rely heavily on science to enjoy Potion Masters--I can't recommend it enough! From its fantasy elements, to its use of science, to the fantastic characters and thrilling plotlines, Frank L. Cole's stories will command your attention.

About the Author

Frank L. Cole was born into a family of southern storytellers and wrote his first book at age eight. Highly superstitious and gullible to a fault, Frank will believe in any creepy story you tell him, especially ones involving ghosts and Big Foot. Currently, along with his wife and three children, he resides in the shadow of a majestic western mountain range, which is most likely haunted. Potion Masters The Transparency Tonic is Frank’s 11th published book.
