Erin Hahn's Writing is Like Music to My Ears | Review: More Than Maybe by Erin Hahn

Erin Hahn proves once again that she's one of the best voices to come to modern young adult fiction.

More Than Maybe
by Erin Hahn

Growing up under his punk rocker dad's spotlight, eighteen-year-old Luke Greenly knows fame and wants nothing to do with it. His real love isn't in front of a crowd, it's on the page. Hiding his gift and secretly hoarding songs in his bedroom at night, he prefers the anonymous comfort of the locally popular podcast he co-hosts with his outgoing and meddling, far-too-jealousy-inspiringly-happy-with-his-long-term-boyfriend twin brother, Cullen. But that’s not Luke’s only secret. He also has a major un-requited crush on music blogger, Vada Carsewell.

Vada's got a five year plan: secure a job at the Loud Lizard to learn from local legend (and her mom's boyfriend) Phil Josephs (check), take over Phil's music blog (double check), get accepted into Berkeley's prestigious music journalism program (check, check, check), manage Ann Arbor's summer concert series and secure a Rolling Stone internship. Luke Greenly is most definitely NOT on the list. So what if his self-deprecating charm and out-of-this-world music knowledge makes her dizzy? Or his brother just released a bootleg recording of Luke singing about some mystery girl on their podcast and she really, really wishes it was her?

More Than Maybe by Erin Hahn
Rating: ★★★☆ (4.5)
As always, a copy of this book was provided by the author or publisher in exchange for my honest review. This does not effect my opinion in any way.

First thing's first: I adored More Than Maybe. I know what you're thinking. Jessica? Liking a book that's central plotlines, and romance, are nestled between music notes? How absolutely unsurprising! The truth is, More Than Maybe was at the very top of my most anticipated TBR for 2020 and I feel like it was bound to be one of those novels that just... connected with me.

And I was right.

I'm totally smitten with More Than Maybe.

This was kind of the musically entwined, swoon-worthy contemporary romance of my dreams. More Than Maybe is definitely more than just a maybe addition to your TBR--it's time to welcome it with open arms and dive right in! And get ready to smile, feel, and want to sing out.

Honestly, even with only two major books under her belt, I have this theory that Erin Hahn could write pretty much anything and it'd still embrace me. There's something so lyrical about her prose. More Than Maybe comes with a feeling that is like turning up the radio, driving around in the summertime with the air on high and singing at the top of your lungs with your best friend. It's familiar, freeing, and totally fun.

We may be confined to being, mostly, indoors, but this book is more than ready to keep us company.

Needless to say, More Than Maybe is an exceptionally well written bright spot for the summertime. A mood boost if ever there were one. It's a definite feel-good romance that will leave readers humming to themselves and remembering what it's like to be in love.
